A Quick Wrap
By: Marcus | July 13th, 2009A Quick Wrap
Ok, before i get started i just want to apologies for not posting for almost a month. My laptop was stuffed and couldn’t be fixed and I also spent a week at Port Douglas (I wish I was still there at the moment, 28 degrees everyday compared to Melbourne’s low teens. Oh and also it has the Great Barrier Reef. God that was amazing, better stop ranting hey….) Anyway, I have a new laptop so lets start the wrap.
Friendlies
In late June Melbourne traveled to New Zealand for a friendly against Wellington, the match ended as a 1-1 draw.
On the 11th of July (two days ago) Melbourne played against Fulham at Etihad Stadium. I did not attend the game as I thought the tickets were way over priced, and many Melbournians shared my sentiments with only 20,000 people showing up, and I couldn’t view or listen to it because no one was broadcasting it. (I hope the organizes learnt there lesson,) The match ended as a 3-0 defeat to Melbourne.
Transfers
No players have arrived or departed from Melbourne since my last post, but Theo has found a club. Theo will join Leijer and Carney at English League One club Norwich City where he signed a two year contract. I think he will do very well, and to be honest I think he is better than English League One football, but all the best.
In other news you can read Glen Moss’s questions and answers blog here, Where he talks all things from joining Melbourne to his recent experience in the Confederations Cup.
Kevin Muscat’s interview with Fozzie and Basheer from the SBS team here and here
Finally I’ll leave you with a fly through of the new stadium ![]()

I did actually head down to watch the Fulham game despite the prices and Victory showed promise in defence and midfield. The usual lack of finishing capability from Danny showed against a quality defence with Schwarzer barely having to touch the ball. Archie was good but after a few failed attempts and finding little support up front he didn’t do too much more.
On the goalies, I used to think Moss was the new No 1 but I think Mitchell will start off in the first XI with an impressive first half.
