By: Marcus | October 7th, 2009I thought I’d keep you guys up to date with the Melbourne Youth team and the Woman’s team.
MV Woman
The girl’s played in the curtain raiser to the Melbourne Vs. Brisbane match against Perth. Unlike there male counterparts the Melbourne female team opened up there season with an impressive win. Young defender Enza Barilla opened up the scoring when she slotted the ball into the bottom left corner in the 34th minute. Melbourne’s advantage was doubled when Vedrana Popovic won the ball in Midfield before playing a neat one-two with Kurulay and successfully crossing the ball to Canadian striker Katie Thorlakson who made no mistake and easily finished the move.
Melbourne Victory: 2 (Barilla 34′, Thorlakson 71′)

In other news relating to the Woman’s team Stephanie Catley and Caitlin Friend have been selected in the Woman’s Under-16 squad for the Asean Football Federation U16 Woman’s Championship 2009 in Yangon, Myanmar. I can’t believe that there are 15 year old’s in the team! Report.
Here is a highlights video I found of the girl’s, I’ll post highlights if I find them
MV Youth
The Youth team played off against Brisbane’s youth at the Veneto Club in front of 366 spectators. Youth captain Aziz Behich got the the first goal of the match with a cracking free kick on 25 minutes. The shot was placed into the top left corner and was unstoppable. At the other end of the pitch Glen Moss’ understudy and Melbourne starlet Mitchell Langerak put on a clinic, saving everything Brisbane threw at him and sniff out all attacks. On 74 minutes however Langerak was beaten. Roar youngster Luke Bratten unleashed a free kick into the bottom left corner making scores level. After this both teams had good chances but were unable to capitalize.
Report

Melbourne Victory: 1 (Behich 25)
Brisbane Roar: 1 (Bratten 74)
