ACL Squad Announced

By: Marcus | January 20th, 2010

Melbourne has named a 25-man squad for its upcoming AFC Champions League 2010 campaign, promoting six players from its NYL side and including injured midfielder Billy Celeski, who tore his ACL earlier this year.

Melbourne Victory AFC Champions League 2010 squad:

Goalkeepers: Mitchell LANGERAK, Glen MOSS, Sebastian MATTEI

Defenders: Kevin MUSCAT (c), Surat SUKHA, Matthew KEMP, Rodrigo VARGAS, Matthew FOSCHINI, Evan BERGER, Adrian LEIJER, Luke PILKINGTON, Diogo FERREIRA, Petar FRANJIC

Midfielders: Mate DUGANDZIC, Leigh BROXHAM, Grant BREBNER, Billy CELESKI, Carlos HERNANDEZ, Tom PONDELJAK, Aziz BEHICH, Marvin ANGULO, Nick WARD, Stephen HATZIKOSTAS

Forwards:
Archie THOMPSON, Robbie KRUSE

There are a few suprises in the list such as Celeski to the delight of many fans.
On the other hand former Youth captain Matt Theodore, Steven Pace and most surprising Nathan Elasi were not named leading to speculation that the players will be released come the end of the season. I always thought Elasi in particular had something to offer the club but sadly I believe he will move on.

Other than that the squad looks pretty strong except for our forwards. If Archie and Kruse go down we will be in big trouble as we have no strikers. Elasi may have been handy in that situation.
Our 3 Visa spots have been taken by the Costa Ricans Marvin and Carlos (Carlos takes up 2 spots do to weight restrictions :P ), and Scot Grant Brebner got the last spot. Surat fills the Asian quota.
