Fowler Upstaged By The Hernandez Show
By: Marcus | February 9th, 2010Just a quick one today, a very busy week for me as I have things to do before I head up to Sydney for the final round
.
Melbourne Victory: 2 (Hernandez 35, 66)
North Queensland Fury: 0
Crowd: 22,726 Etihad Stadium
It was great to finally see former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler playing in Melbourne, we had to wait til the second last round of the season and it looked as though he wouldn’t make it a couple of weeks back when he refused to sit on the bench and his relationship with Fury coach Ian Ferguson looked fractured beyond repair.
Many fans came out just to see him ply his trade but he was upstaged by a certain Costa Rican in the form of Carlos Hamburguez.
Carlos was looking as chubby as ever but his weight failed to stop his hot form as he put in a brilliant performance on Friday night. He stepped up with Archie missing from the attack working twice as hard and scoring a brace in the process.
Team wise it was a solid performance. Leijer was given the Captain’s armband in the place of Kevin Muscat who was suspended, and he rose to the challenge putting in a flawless performance.
With a defender missing the system was changed from a 4-3-3 to a diamond shaped 4-4-2.
Former Manchester United Youth product Grant Brebner (or FMUYPGB for short, or perhaps Brebs) put in a good performance keeping our defence in check.
The bad news on the night was Matt Kemp. He has been ruled out with an ACL injury which will keep him out for 9 months and has put a huge dint in Australia’s World Cup hopes. In an exclusive interview to MVFC Offside FIFA boss Sepp Blatter expressed his disappointment, stating that Kemp’s ACL injury has rocked the 2010 WC in South Africa as one of the sports biggest stars, Kemp would miss out. He then burst into tears after revealing that FIFA had already ordered 50,000 Australia kits with the highly fabled number 118 on the back for Kemp’s break out performance which would have seen his offered lucrative deals from European giants.
In other news regarding the match Melbourne signed CCM’s Nik Mrjda as an injury replacement for Billy Celeski. Mrdja who is retuning to the Mariners next season was able to terminate his contract for this season in a hope of playing in a team that could play in a manner resembling football, and where the pre-game warm ups didn’t involve watching Fight Club.
Many people have been scratching there head in regards to the deal which frankly shouldn’t have been allowed even though it is 100% legit.
Leading the outcry was Moron (or is it Miron? I don’t care he’s a wanker anyway) Blieberg who gave the FFA a lecture about the dodgy transfer system shortly after his inspirational speech about ‘the Wild West’, you know the one where a sheriff came to town and ‘was shooting here and shooting there’ (you couldn’t make this shit up). Gold Coast United owner Clive ‘Ate all the Palmer gana’ tested the FFA’s resolve by attempting to sign Lionel Messi as an injury replacement for Steve Pantelidis who got in a fight with a wall that wouldn’t get out of his way. Panta broke both hands and fractured his skull and is expected to miss the final series, but on the upside doctors believe his IQ miraculously rose to 5 and that the wall should make a full recovery.
Miron’s speech starts at 2:40…enjoy!
That wasn’t a quick one was it…Ah well, got caught up in it.
That’s capped off an eventful few days, stay tuned for one of the biggest stories of the year!
Well possible…

Marcus, I almost sense some anger at the Bleiberg and Palmer show. Personally I think they put on a great comedy routine with so much mock outrage.
On Kemp, you have to feel sorry for the guy. He’s finally got an a-league socceroos callup(something rare), he has the fans actually yelling for him as opposed to at him and he’s actually starting to be a decent working midfielder. Then suddenly his ACL busts before the finals and the ACL(I’m still waiting on the numerous bad puns from the Newspapers).
Still, nice work by Hernandez and Leijer looks to be a good stand in captain for the moment. I’m thinking Dugandzic may even get a follow up run next game.

Yea look Michael i agree that the whole Mrdja think is wrong, shouldn’t have happened, i’m just sick of GCU always running there mouth and acting like wankers.
ie. the complain about CCM being thugs, then the Panta incident the next week, then this then that.
They never shut up and its annoying as all hell. (Or maybe its just Gaz from 442 haha)
Kempy is a massive loss, I hope Berger can fill some of the void thats been left (hopefully carlos doesn’t eat him).
Hopefully Mate is fit for Sydney and hes given a chance, I know he was injured and i think hes scheduled to be back after Sydney, regardless though I cant wait for it!

Oh I can’t wait for the tards to come to town! It will be even more epic than the 2-2 draw last season. Marcus, let me guess, you’ll be at the KB hotel right?

And Marcus, I know you worry about Carlos being unfit but after watching Robby Fowler at the game I thought Hernandez was getting some sumo competition.

Carlos? Unfit? Nooooo!
I’m just amazed someone with his girth can move the way he did haha.
