Melbourne 1, Newcastle 1…Melbourne Lose More Than The Two Points
By: Marcus | September 10th, 2009What a week it has been in Melbourne!
Over the last week I have felt frustrated, sad, more sad and as of today very happy ![]()
(This post will be on the frustration and first sad moment)
First things first. I am very sorry I haven’t posted in a while, this post is way overdue. I have been caught up in shitloads of school work, I am in year 12 and its the business end of the year. That said I will do my best to keep the blog up to date from now on.
Ok, lets do this.

Melbourne Victory 1 (Thompson 42)
Newcastle Jets 1 (Haliti 86)
Thursday, September 3, 2009
Etihad Stadium
Again I didn’t see all of the match as it was a Thursday night and I had an outcome the following day. From all reports it looks like Melbourne dominated possession and again failed to make it count.
In the 42nd minute Melbourne won a free kick on the right side of the pitch, Broxham took it and managed to find Archie who miraculously headed it home to continue his hot form with a goal in each of his last 3 matches. Melbourne continued to go forward and hold the ball but failed to break through. on the 87th minute Tarek Elrich took Matt kemp on deep in our defensive half, Elrich did brilliantly to leave Kemp flat footed and whip in a cross which was headed home by Haliti, who scored his first goal since his return to Newcastle. Moss should have done better. ( Report )
Now to the most significant and most depressing news for any Melbourne fan, in the 3rd minute of the match Billy Celeski jumped up to challenge for the ball, he landed awkwardly and tore his ACL (you an hear his screams in the clip…poor bastard) ![]()
He is out for the rest of the season and may even miss our ACL (Asian Champions League) campaign.
This is a massive blow for Melbourne, its 5 times worse than losing Allsopp. Billy has a bright future and will be sorely missed.
Get well soon Billy!!!
Oh and Shazback deserves a mention for he/she’s comment last week
