Yesterday held some sad news as it was announced Theo was leaving, today however, held some good news as it was announced Melbourne captain Kevin Muscat has inked a new deal. The new deal will see 35 year old Muscy play one more season with Melbourne and then the following two seasons as a full time assistant coach.
Muscat is a big part of Melbourne, not because he is the most skillful, but due to his leadership and wealth of experience as he has played in England and for the Australian International team 51 times. I was quiet releaved that our captain has signed a new deal as we need him to keep the back line together after the mass exodus that occurred at the end of the season, with Ryall<13, Thwaite and Pandelidis all leaving.
There was some speculation that Kev wouldn’t return but today he explained why it took so long to announce. “The process took its time, only because it was an important decision for me. I want to be somewhere where I can learn and do my apprenticeship, and this is the football club, along with (Melbourne Victory Coach) Ernie Merrick, that I want to be at.”
Hopefully the boys can send him off with another strong performance this year.
In other news Melbourne have another sponsor as allBanx signed on, and the boys are flying over to China for the upcoming warm up games tonight.

No suprise with Muscat, I think he was just holding out for the coaching role. He’s been the captain for four seasons now and I think he wants to have a fifth tag to his name.
Still you never know about sports retirees.
