The Asian Friendlies Wrap

Melbourne are heading back to Australia after there pre-season friendlies against CSL teams Tianjin and Guangzhou, both ended as 2-1 defeats.

Guangzhou Vs. Melbourne
In the first warm up game Merrick experimented with a mixture of youth and experience, he gave everyone a go in the warm and humid climate in China. There were heaps of positives to come out of this game, such as Mitchell Langerak put in a good shift making some good saves and Broxham’s brilliant free kick, which was our only goal.
The negatives of the match were that Steven Pace and Ney Fabiano both got injured. Pace went to hospital with a dislocated shoulder and Fabiano rolled his ankle.

Tianjin Vs. Melbourne
In the second friendly it was more of the same, everyone getting a run. Archie was sent off after 10 minutes controversially for ‘dissent’. Other than that it was similar to the match against Guangzhou, ended 2-1, this time Ward scored.
