Victory’s Anger Management

By: Jake | October 3rd, 2008

Well after a holiday to Tasmania, which was by the way great [schwarzenegger impersonation] I’m back [/schwarzenegger impersonation] so what better topic for this segment then one of Australian footballs hottest topics at the moment.
After a strong start to the season and our occupation of top spot it’s no wonder that the Victory are making headlines but lately it’s been for all the wrong reasons.
A hattrick of red cards in consecutive matches to Fabiano (spitting), Theoklitos (stomping) and Hernandez (two bookings) has seen the media asking questions about Melbourne Victory’s anger management. Now i’m not going to differ from the media and ask the same question, does Melbourne Victory have anger management problems? I personaly think that they do, I mean the one red to Fabiano was bad judgement, the second to Theoklitos was unlucky for us but a third red card in a row? Thats more then a coincidence. If i was running things for the Victory then the team therapist/councelor would have been sacked immediately. Merrick has a real problem on his hands and he needs to decide the right path to follow to eradicate this problem. It has come to the stage where our playing style isn’t really affected by playing with 10 men because we are so damn used to it and that is just plain simple not on. Who has to bear the weight of these problems? Well the team mates who have to play with only 10 men and even more importantly we as the fans because we have to support a team who are ill disciplined and uncontrollable. I also found it funny to see Kevin Muscat’s article in the Sunday Herald Sun saying how Victory don’t have a discipline/ anger managemnet problem. Obviously the paper was published before Hernandez got his red card.
I would hate to bring a reference to the AFL here but Collingwood captain Scott Burns handled misbehaviour from his team mates very well, so the question has to be asked how is our captain Kevin Muscat handling this one? Well not very well is he and one only has to remember how many yellows and reds he has picked up over his career to realize that he is not one to discipline his team mates. So who is?
