When Patience Runs Out
By: Marcus | September 14th, 2009What the fuck was that? Can anyone explain to me what the hell happened on the pitch yesterday?
It was pathetic. Disgraceful. Quiet frankly embarrassing.
We played for the opening 4 minutes scored a goal and went all out defence, even after Wellington scored in the 30th minute we couldn’t get forward. No creativity what so ever, we didn’t even look like penetrating the Wellington defence, apart from Carlos’s free kick there are no other efforts on goal worth noting.

(I think anyone would rather hang themselves than watch this match again, looks like Carlos would)
I got no idea were to start.
When the hell is Merrick going to figure out that Brebner in the starting 11 means not only will the match be an eyesore but we will be lucky to draw. The worst thing about Celeski being injured is this 31 year old who couldn’t even cut it for a pub team, is stagnating any attack we put together, and turning the ball over far to much.
Poor Broxham actually played quiet well last night, but the poor bastard kept getting overrun by the Phoenix midfield, every time they came forward he was trying to cover there whole midfield, and where was Brebner? God knows. He’d be more useful if he just lied down in the middle of the pitch.
That’s 2 matches straight now that Kemp has cost us the match. Does Mathew even understand the concept of a formation? I lose track of the amount of times he left his left back position. At the very start Broxham had to sit in Kemp’s left back position while he ran around like a head less chicken.
Merrick FFS just by watching Wellington’s highlight’s you can see that they score lots from wing play, so what do you do? Clear the wings and congest the midfield! It made things very bad for us, I still don’t know how we drew. Should have lost, deserved to lose.
In my mind several things have to happen
Brebner’s contract should be terminated (will never happen).
Stop blaming the pitch Merrick. Not only are the other team as disadvantaged as us but if it was a problem I’m sure you would have fixed it some time last year. Etihad/Telstra/AFL Headquarters really don’t care. The solution will be here next season…New stadium yey.
People need to get off Broxham’s back. He is starting to play well, needs encouragement.
We should be fielding players that don’t rival ghosts, I’m look at you Pondeljak, aka Captain Anonymous. I swear to God I don’t see the benefit in him playing. The only time I have ever really taken notice of him was in the Grand Final when he scored the goal, otherwise he does nothing.
I’m at my wits end with this team at the moment. I mean to lose is one thing, but to play like that is another.
People may disagree with me but drastic measures have to be taken.
Archie HAS to be dropped. Every time I have watched him he’s been awful. Give’s away the ball, all his runs lead to nothing, in times of need he not there, he can’t inspire the team in anyway. (you can quote Archie pre-season as saying ‘I’m faster, stronger and shitter fitter than ever’) Dropping Archie would be a statement, a much needed statement to let everyone know no one is safe and that shit is not acceptable.
I’m sick of seeing the likes of Brebner and Kemp fuck up week after week, lets play some youth!!!
The formation has to be re-jigged.

I have faith in Melbourne, I’m going to Adelaide on Friday for the match, but seriously this is a joke. We can’t think its acceptable to dominate one season and do terrible the next, pull your finger out team.
Anyone else got any thoughts?

This whole season i have not been to one game, i’ve seen afew games streaming but i’d honestly rather use my time more efficiently than watch Melbourne play at the moment… It’s always been the same story with Merrick, he goes ahead and always plays super defensive with 5 men at the back and 54 defensive midfielders which starve off any chance we have of attack. Correct me if i’m wron but hasn’t Kemp always been a right fullback? why is he playing out of position? the whole team seems to lack ANY attacking force what so ever. it makes me sick and i don’t want to pay to go and watch games like this!!! Marcus, i know exactly how you feel, i felt liek thsi 2 season ago when we won then just missed the top 4. Merrick doesn’t seem to be able to have much consistency from season to season. Maybe we need a change? i for one think we probly do!Broxham seems to be the only player with any drive in our team. He plays his heart out and gets nothing in return. i hate, HATE players who dordle around and do nothing all game aka. half of our squad. We need players with enthusiasm, somehting to play for not just a fat paycheck week in week out!
sorry for my rant! had to get it out some way or another

1stly Kieran they probably are men disguised as chicks cause ur so desperate.
Christian mate i agree with you 100 percent mate. We have youngsters like Foschini, Theodore, Dunandzic and Kruse who have to sit out and watch while players that seem to have no drive play week in week out.
Kemp is a RB but with Berger out(another young great talent) he is playing LB n Sukha is in RB.
Its a repeat of 2 seasons ago, not good enough.
I feel really embarrassed because i took this guy who is born and bread roman to see that shit, just argh!
I’m seriously not happy with Thompson, everytime i have watched him this season he has been very poor, i’d prefer to play ElasiPosted from

This was a hard game to watch but it shows a whole lot of problems with Melbourne.
Our defence had more holes than swiss cheese and lacked real direction. Vargas, as good as he is at sweeping, doesn’t seem to able to get Kemp to stay in position, or for that matter keep the defence on track. As much as I’m not a fan of his playing style, Muscat seems to be the best to keep the backline on track when we are in a game.Maybe the issue isn’t the players, or the pitch, the coach needs to stop rolling out the same team week in week out if it’s not working well. Merrick may have brought us to two championships but he’s no tactical genius.
On your intended team list I’d probably only change one thing. Personally, I haven’t been as disappointed with Pondeljak. I’d drop Archie from up front and put both Kruse and Fabiano as a strike team and have Pondeljack in midfield. Maybe when Muscat’s not fit to play we need a different captain than Vargas, though the only one who comes to mind is Hernandez.
(oh and I’m from South East Melbourne.)

HAHAHA Luka Sydney is not the ‘Football Heartland’ at least not anymore
To be honest Michael i really dont mind Muscat at the back, when hes there the team keeps shape. The problem is he is getting too old, he going to get injured far more and only has a max of 2 seasons left in him. We have to find someone to fill his boots and quick.
I was thinking today maybe we should play a 4-3-3
